🌿 Mil maneras de abrazar un plaid

🌿 A thousand ways to hug a plaid

There are objects that enter our lives almost silently, yet end up accompanying us through the most ordinary moments and the most intimate. A plaid is one of them. It's not just a blanket: it's a gesture of care, a small refuge that waits silently in a corner of the home, ready to warm us when we need it.

At Bertha's Nice Things, each throw is handcrafted using natural fabrics like muslin and waffle weave. Both fabrics have something special about them. Muslin caresses the skin with an unforgettable softness; it's lightweight, breathable, and flexible—a perfect companion for any season. Waffle weave, with its fluffy texture and honeycomb or waffle-like appearance, adds body, warmth, and a rustic charm that makes it a much-loved fabric.

And perhaps that's why, because of its feel and its presence, a plaid can have many lives.

Some people use it to swaddle a baby while they sleep peacefully in their stroller, just like I did with my daughter when she was little. It's amazing what a soft fabric can convey: calm, tenderness, protection. But others prefer to use it to dress up the sofa, to cover a bed in natural tones, or to add a touch of color to an armchair that needed a new look.

Sometimes throws become part of our daily rituals: the coffee break on the balcony when the air starts to cool, the last bit of reading of the day, the lazy weekend nap. They're also perfect for those summer porches where the breeze arrives timidly at dusk and all you want is to wrap yourself up a little without losing that light feeling.

Those who practice yoga or meditation find in them an unexpected ally: the right weight to relax after the last pose, the right texture to sit calmly, the feeling of contemplation that accompanies conscious breathing.

And then there are those moments when life invites us to go out. A picnic among flowers, a spontaneous getaway, an afternoon in the countryside with good company… Plaids fold easily, fit in any bag, and become an impromptu tablecloth, a blanket for relaxing under a tree, or a light coat when the sun decides to hide.

In reality, a plaid ends up being whatever each person wants it to be. A silent companion that adds beauty and comfort to everyday life: practical, soft, natural.
Perhaps that's why, every time I make one, I feel like I'm creating more than just a blanket; it's almost like giving shape to a small moment of well-being. 🌸
